When asked "Why join a networking organization called WomenIN " this is what she told us...
I was always told that I was ‘too emotional’ to be a successful leader. So for years I tried to ‘fix’ myself even though I didn’t know what this feedback meant, what specifically needed to be ‘fixed’ or how I would even go about ‘fixing’ it when I discovered whatever ‘it’ was. I had a few female role models early in my career however upon my return to work after the birth of my third child, I began to notice that my mentors had achieved success in their careers by sacrificing things I wasn’t prepared too. They had learned to play the game by a set of rules that were defined a long time ago. Rules that no longer fit.
Reaching the breaking point mid-career, I had a decision to make. Leave or stay. Not one to back down from a challenge I decided to stay and work to change the outdated rule book. I believe there is a place for emotion in leadership. I believe empathy is our superpower as leaders – at home and at the office. As a speaker, author and coach, I support leaders to lean into their feelings, connect with those they lead and build high performing teams.
